Film Club Insider - Part 2

The Big Return to the Big Screen!

On the 20th of March, 2022, the AMU University Film Club (UFC) made a return to the beloved Kennedy Auditorium after two years! This was the first in-person show for the public since 2020, so students and audience were bustling into the hall way before the event began. Spending over a year in tough times under lockdowns and restrictions was made easy through various arts and entertainment for amusement, but the excitement for offline shows was justified.

Working alongside the University Debate and Literary Club (UDLC), the UFC orchestrated the screening of a very fitting film to begin the workings of the Kennedy Auditorium again. The evening started off at 3 with the screening of ‘Contagion’ (2011) by Steven Soderbergh, a thriller revolving around a realistic portrayal of a global pandemic and healthcare professionals. This uncannily detailed film certainly impressed all viewers, as the audience erupted into cheers as soon as the lights went out.

This screening was quickly followed by a very enlightening and engaging panel discussion at 5pm on ‘Understanding Pandemics: History, Impact and Recovery’, moderated by student Shoeb Hashmi. The respected panellists included Prof. Asad U. Khan (Professor, Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University), Dr. Husaini S. Haider Mehdi (Assistant Professor, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University) and Prof. Roomana N. Siddiqui (Professor, Department of Psychology, Aligarh Muslim University). All experts in their own fields, the audience got to gain a deep understanding of the effects of a pandemic on a person, be it biologically, medically, or mentally.
