Film Club Insider - Part 6

 In-House Activity | Critical Analysis 2.0

If you’ve kept up with our past reports you will know that the University Film Club (UFC) is never short on fun activities for its members. This time, we brought back the Critical Analysis of a Short Film.

On the 14th of May 2022, the members of the UFC gathered at the Cultural Educational Centre (CEC) to analyse the French short film ‘L'Accordeur’ (The Piano Tuner) by Olivier Treiner. The thriller, which runs for 13 minutes, is a true sensory experience for all viewers.

The members formed teams of three and watched the film with full focus. After watching the film, the teams spread out across the premises of the CEC and had a discussion on the movie and what everyone thought of it. All aspects of the film were analysed, such as the storyline, the characters, technical concepts such as its lighting and camera angles, and the audio.

Once the given 10 minutes were up, everyone gathered again and all team captains came up front to share their teams’ ideas and perspectives. The teams included Team Dragon, Tempest, Alaska, AAA, Cinetrey, Iconic, Wolfpack, Jordan, and Team Sky. Everyone gave a very insightful review and were judged thoroughly by the club’s secretary Syed Suhaib.

Eventually all games come down to the winners. This time, the winners were Team AAA! With a score of 8/10, this team managed to swipe the first place. The runner-up was Team Cinetrey, with a close score of 7! These UFC members put a lot of thought into their perception of the film, and were awarded for their good work!
